Wide Area Network Design & Build

The Situation

Nees Hardware & Building Supplies Limited operate the Petone, Upper Hutt & Porirua Mitre 10 Mega large format retail stores. The Petone store hosts the retail management and core infrastructure for the businesses. The remote branch and mobile users experienced business impacting issues due to a congested and oversubscribed network layer.

The Solution

The existing wide area network (WAN) made use of the now obsolete Telecom One Office offering. Intellium was engaged by the business to design a WAN solution making use of newer connectivity options. Being an independent aggregator, Intellium could select the most appropriate connection type at each location, resulting with bandwidth increasing by 400% with no increase in operating cost. This new solution is fully managed by Intellium and resolved the immediate transactional issues and has led to improved functioning of the whole financial system. Further, the new Internet connection provides unlimited national and international data for a fixed rate.

Deliverables/Technology

  • Fully managed WAN
  • Enterprise grade security routers
  • No additional operating cost
  • Fixed price internet
  • Direct link to Support Centre

Infrastructure Design & Build

The Situation

The IT infrastructure at Nees Hardware & Building Supplies (Nees) operators of the Mitre 10 Petone &Upper Hutt Mitre 10 Mega Stores was coming out of warranty and needed replacing. After requesting proposals from a number of vendors Nees felt the submissions lacked an understanding of their business requirements and a cohesive strategy that would serve the business into the future.

The Solution

Intellium Technology was engaged as Technology consultants to develop a complete Technology Roadmap that would ensure all aspects of the business would benefit from an investment in new infrastructure. It was important that the latest technological advancements were balanced with surety over operational stability. After approval from the Board, Intellium were selected to both deploy the new IT strategy and support the business on an ongoing basis.

Deliverables/Technology

  • Server virtualisation
  • Remote Desktop environment
  • Microsoft Back Office Systems
  • Geographically diverse backup replication
  • Fixed price maintenance contract
